Happy Bird-day!

Hi folks!  It's Kim from Katydid Cards here with you today.  Since our sponsor this month is Paper Crafting World, my card today uses several of their cut files to make this birthday card.

I used Card Flowers N Fence CF for the base, but I wanted to change things up a bit so I combined elements from the Fall Fun Crows Layout CF.  I used the base, mat, stems and grass and ovals from the first and the flowers, crow and fence from the second.  They combined for a whole new look.

Here's a close-up of the card so I can share a few details.

The back panel is Whisper White card stock which I embossed using the Cloudy Day embossing folder.  With a Stippling Brush, I lightly brushed over the top with Soft Sky ink so that just the raised areas were colored.  I printed the greeting in black using the Juice ITC font.

I cut the flowers from Daffodil Delight and sponged the edges in the same color.  I rounded the edges with Sculpy tools.  These tools are designed to used on clay, but I use them all the time with great success in my card making.  I cut the flower centers from a scrap of brown and dotted them with the small Sculpy tool.  I wanted to highlight the center a bit, so I used a Sakura Gold pen as well.  The leaves have been scored in an arc to give them a bit of dimension.

To make the crow, I used Basic Black, Crushed Curry, Cherry Cobbler, Daffodil Delight and scraps of brown and tan.  I sponged the edges of the beak, feet, hat and flower.  I highlighted the eyes and beak with a Sakura White Gel Pen.  The fence was scored and sponged as well.

I wanted to give the card and interactive feature, so I extended the left horizontal railings so I could wrap them behind the panel and lengthened the posts so the fence could stand level with the card.  This enables the fence to pull out from the card for a little surprise.  I just want to mention I also welded the crow's outline to the fence to make it one piece to give support behind the crow.

For the inside, I converted the flowers to print only.  I changed the lines on the petals to Cherry Cobbler and made them a bit thicker and selected them to print to distinguish the individual petals.   The sentiment was typed using the same font.

Now, I have to admit this sentiment may not appeal to everyone, but I tend to have a dry sense of humor...and I am an old crow.  You could  change the greeting to, "It's Your Birthday" and the sentiment to read, "now that's something to crow about".

I'm going to be giving this birthday girl a gift with this card, so I made a tag to go with the card.  I cut the crow again, making it slightly smaller.

Here are the card and tag together, with a bit of ribbon.  Unless otherwise specified, all the products I used are Stampin' Up.

Before I go I want to remind you of the monthly challenge we have going on.  It's a fun challenge, so I sure hope you can join us!
